In June 1961, Boyer was reassigned, and Bud Kaufman became the Thunderbird studio manager. Designers in the Thunderbird studio were also upset because everybody had given up on the 2-passenger Thunderbird. Those letters continued with the ’61 Thunderbird. was receiving letters from fans bemoaning the demise of the two-passenger Thunderbird. Looking up at the motor and trans they are clean and fresh. In the back the springs, suspension and shocks have been replaced. You can tell the hardware, bushings etc were replaced. The suspension and steering was all apart. ![]() The floors look like they're dry as a chalkboard, smooth clean metal that is painted satin black. UNDERSIDE: It is actually very nice underneath this car. All the metal is painted, the hardware and brackets are real nice. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The entire compartment where the top stores is beautifully restored and detailed. It features power steering and power brakes. All the components are clean and painted. Everything's detailed, has washer bag, hood insulation, reproduction hose clamps and decals. The motor is clean with rechromed correct valve covers. The whole engine bay is nice clean metal with factory spot welds and seams still crisp. The original build sheet was found inside the car.ĮNGINE COMPARTMENT: Big 390 motor with 300 horsepower pulls this car down the road with ease. Features include power windows, power seat and the very cool swing away wheel. Door panels look to be real nice original. Carpets are excellent, has red seat belts front and back. The center console is excellent, has an owners manual inside. Upholstery is excellent, it does have a full back seat under the lid. The Kelsey Hayes wire wheels are excellent, has new tires. It also does not interfere with the top, it can be left on with top up. The tonneau cover is lightweight and easily lifts off in under 1 minute with 1 person. It has had $1,000 just spend modernizing the system to be more reliable. The retractable top is a crowd pleaser when being operated, it's like a transformer. In back all the chrome and tail lights are excellent. The stainless moldings that run front to back and around the windshield is straight and polished. Upfront the headlight bezels, bumper, moldings and emblem are excellent. The chrome and trim is beautiful, all new or restored. The paint is polished better than the factory finish. Those doors fit remarkably well, it smooth all along the bottom. This includes wire wheels and a tonneau cover that turns it into a 2 seater. This one is further decked out with the roadster package.
